Devastating 7.0 Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Philippines

A devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake rocked the Northern Philippines on Wednesday morning, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

Around 8:43 AM local time (8:43 PM EST), the sound and rumble of an enormous earthquake rattled local Filipinos and sent them running for safety. In a video provided, you can see the tall tower-like structure in the background, crumble and break apart pieces. You can also see bystanders fleeing for safety while the amateur filmmaker is casually recording the event unfold, rocking left to right. In a different scene, the chandelier inside a residence rocks wildly back and forth. Click to see the video here.

The epicenter of today’s earthquake occurred about 13 kilometers southeast of the small town of Dolores in Abra province. Check out Trip Advisor on their reviews about Dolores. Reports come in indicating only two deaths with several injured. As a precaution, there is a tsunami warning in the Philippines and surrounding countries, such as Japan. Speaking of Japan, the Land of the Rising Sun made headlines this week for their own natural hazard. Japanese in the island of Kyushu witnessed the Sakurajima volcano erupt.
